It actually started last night. I didn't know it would be four degrees with a lot of wind. Sleeping with only thermal underwear is way too little in that case. Due to the cold night, I also started late today.
I also didn't take into account in my preparation that it would get so cold. I think it's quite unusual.
The beginning went well. With two big climbs. You really notice that you're making progress when you do this for a while.
Then I came to the plateau. Very beautiful and spacious landscape where you can see far. Few trees, truly a unique landscape. You could say it's an American grand landscape with roads that are kilometers long and straight. With vegetation that we are not familiar with.
But then the weather turned. A cold headwind from the North Pole. So strong that you're not moving forward even on a downhill slope. The temperature dropped to 6 degrees. That really was a struggle. Biked for much too long with just a T-shirt, eventually with a sweater and winter coat, but I'm still cold.
Nevertheless, I cycled 80 km and climbed 870 meters.
Not much desire left to cook in that cold. First, seek out the warmth. Getting warm is now the highest priority. The sauna is now being heated.
The coming days (at the North Cape) the weather will not get much better but today was unusually cold for the end of July.
